Abstract

Being a portion of the Z-drugs class, zolpidem is a pharmacological compound applied to address sleeplessness that is not benzodiazepine-derived. Zolpidem is marketed in America under the proprietary name Ambien®. In Europe and the USA, there are two short-acting hypnotic medications called Zaleplon. Aside from drugged driving, this prescription drugs are often claimed as an instrument in drug-facilitated crimes such robberies, extortions, and date rape. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry technique using ether extraction in one step. The approach that was published proved to be inexpensive, sensitive, quick, and appropriate for analyzing spiked meals and drinks as well as urine for signs of robbery, sexual assault, or purposeful or inadvertent drunkenness. The drugs were extracted from the spiked samples using methanol and analyzed using LC-MS/MS. Worldwide, zolpidem and benzodiazepines are often abused and misused. They are frequently abused in crimes and their unlawful distribution has led to a substantial increase in their abuse.
